I arrived at a new clinic, how do I know I'm in a good and reliable place?

Another dental clinic chain has gone bankrupt. (Dr. Mark Levin - "Medicalinic"). Joining "Shen Olam, "Tadmor," "Shoresh Ariel," and probably a few others I don't remember right now... My patients and their friends ask me – Dr. Tagari, how do I protect myself when I go to a new clinic, when I need extensive treatment? How do I know I've come to both a good doctor and a place that won't take my money and disappear?

  1. Don't go alone! Friends, dental treatment is financially expensive, and even more so medically. It is also irreversible. Take with you a spouse, a close friend, or a relative. Another pair of eyes and ears, to feel the doctor, the clinic, the atmosphere of the place. Is the examination thorough? Does the doctor treat you specifically, or does he "work according to a template"?

    1. Does the doctor you are meeting with have certificates on the wall? Are his certificates his? Where did he study? What courses did he take? Is he proud of them? Not only do the certificates show that he is indeed a licensed doctor, they also show that he is part of the clinic and (probably) will remain there for the near future...

    2. During the examination and consultation, does the doctor talk to you about the condition of your gums? About gum pockets? About gum disease? No matter how old you are, no matter how well you clean, you should always refer to the base of the teeth, what holds them in the mouth – the bone and gums. (And yes, I am telling you this as a specialist in prosthodontics).

    3. During the examination, does the doctor use magnifying glasses? What magnification device on the glasses or on the head? Nowadays, the price of magnification devices, at least the simpler ones, reaches a few thousand shekels, while the advantage of using them is huge and great. (To illustrate this topic, search on my website "Technologies and Developments).

2. Does the doctor make an effort, in the conversation and in the treatment plan, to preserve t

he existing teeth? True, there are implants in our world, and when needed we will use them,

but there is nothing like the biological infrastructure of nature for stability and health.

(On this topic, see my separate post – "Four Things You Need to Know About Implants

Before Extensive Dental Treatment").

  1. And last but not least. The treatment plan. Is it in writing? Does it detail the treatment stages? Does it detail an estimated timeline? Does it detail the existing medical problems, and the ways that will be taken to solve them? On this topic as well, see in detail on my website, under the title "Did You Receive a Proper Treatment Plan"...

These six tips are not an insurance certificate carved in stone for receiving good treatment, however, they increase the likelihood that you will receive good dental treatment and that you will receive it to the end.
